MedDRA Analyzer & WHO-Drug Analyzer


XCT Analyzer module provides Dictionary Version Management and Analysis of existing safety data that has been coded. The module can identify coding errors and inconsistencies, move coding between dictionary versions and validate existing coding datasets and synonym histories after each dictionary upgrade, for both MedDRA and WHO-Drug dictionaries.

The Version Management function allows the analysis of a coding set in all versions of a dictionary. It can identify all correct codes and those which, MAY require re-coding as well as those that HAVE to be recoded. It will identify codes that no longer exist, those that have been changed in some way, those who have a related hierarchical change or where a multi-axial change has had an impact. Primary and secondary changes are identified as well as changes in the current status of the code.

A comprehensive history report for the term can be built based upon all available versions of the dictionary terminology - see an example here. So for example the WHO-Drug term NALGESIN first appeared in the available dictionary 2007 Q4 B2 but was not available in our clients previous dictionary of 2004 Q4, however the current coding with the specified ATC was not introduced until the dictionary 2011 Q4 B2. (In this example the client does not have a complete timeline of dictionaries available in their license suite)

Data Mining for adverse events is achieved by being able to create any Special Search Category (SSC) for MedDRA. This SSC can then be combined with patient biometrics to produce a Defined Search Category (DSC). This then allows you to say, for example to find all occurrences of a disorders that include this list of PTs, but exclude this list of LLTs that may also occur with this list of LLTs and PTs for a chosen group. Even if the safety data set only contains SOC and PT the system can fill in the gaps and allow queries involving HLT and HLGTs. A similar approach can be taken with WHO-Drug.

MedDRA Analyzer & WHO-Drug Analyzer Details

The analyzer works by processing a selection of MedDRA or WHO DRUG data form an input source such as a CSV text file, Excel spreadsheet or database source
The layout of this data source can be anything the user desires. It can then be 'discovered' by the software module and final adjustments made by the user.

Once imported the analysis process is begun.

Essentially it is firstly matched to a defining dictionary type and version which is normally specified either by the user or within the data, however there is functionality for it to derive the best match version if required.

Next it is transposed to the new dictionary type and version.
For MedDRA and WHO DRUG this will normally be just a new version but for similar dictionary types eg COSTART, WHOART to MedDRA or alternatively ICD9 to ICD10 it could also be a cross walk from one dictionary type to another.

Once the cross walk (cross map) of the data has been performed then the data can be analysed for
  • any inconsistencies in coding - ie the same term coded to different terms
  • inconsistencies against a synonym dictionary
  • coding of a term that would be an exact match to a different term in the dictionary
  • look at what were valid codings that may now have a better or exact match in the selected dictionary version

The user can then select to look at the detail of the variations of the dictionary version that have affected each individual coding

Links to the Browser and AutoEncoder modules allow simplified searching and matching in the GUI
